CHAPTER 9 Fifth Trumpet: Smoke and Locusts -- 1st Woe

1 And the fifth angel trumped; and I saw a star [²from out of ³the ⁴heaven ¹falling] unto the earth; and was given to him the key of the well of the abyss. 2 And he opened the well of the abyss, and ascended smoke from out of the well, as smoke of a furnace burning. And [⁶were darkened ¹the ²sun ³and ⁴the ⁵air] by the smoke of the well. 3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts unto the earth; and [²was given ³to them ¹authority], as [⁵have ⁶authority ¹the ²scorpions ³of the ⁴earth]. 4 And it was said to them that they should not injure the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree; except for the men only, the ones who have not the seal of God upon their foreheads. 5 And was given to them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented [²months ¹five]; and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, whenever it should smite a man. 6 And in those days [²shall seek ¹men] death, and in no way shall they find it; and they shall desire to die, and [²shall flee ³from ⁴them ¹death]. 7 And the representations of the locusts were likened to horses being prepared for war; and upon their heads as [²crowns ¹golden], and their faces as faces of men. 8 And they had hair as hair of women, and their teeth [²as ³lions ¹were]. 9 And they had chest plates as chest plates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound [²chariots ³of horses ¹of many] running to war. 10 And they have tails likened to scorpions, and stings, and in their tails [²authority ¹having] to injure men [²months ¹five]. 11 They have a king over them -- the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek [²the name ¹he has] Apollyon. 12 The [²woe ¹one] went forth, behold, comes still two woes after these.

Sixth Trumpet: Four Angels at the Euphrates -- 2nd Woe

13 And the sixth angel trumped; and I heard [²voice ¹one] from the four horns of the [²altar ¹golden], of the one before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel, the one having the trumpet, Loose the four angels being bound at the [²river ¹great] Euphrates! 15 And [⁴were loosened ¹the ²four ³angels], the ones being prepared for the hour, and day, and month, and year, that they should kill the third of men. 16 And the number of the military of the horses -- myriads of myriads; and I heard their number. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and the ones sitting down upon them, having chest plates of fiery color, and of blue, and sulphurous; and the heads of the horses were as heads of lions, and out of their mouths went forth fire, and smoke, and sulphur. 18 From [²three ³plagues ¹these] were killed the third of men, by the fire, and by the smoke, and of the sulphur going forth out of their mouths. 19 For the authority of the horses [²in ³their mouth ¹is] and in their tails; for their tails are likened to serpents, having heads; and by them they injure. 20 And the rest of the men who were not killed by these calamities repented not from the works of their hands, that they should not do obeisance to the demons, and the idols -- the golden, and the silver, and the brass, and the stones, and the wooden, which neither [²to see ¹are able], nor to hear, nor to walk. 21 And they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their harlotry, nor of their thefts.
